About Project 2025 to 2050
Background
The Larrakia People are the traditional owners of the greater Darwin region, with Larrakia Country encompassing the traditional coastal lands and seas from the Cox Peninsula through to the Adelaide River.
Over many years, the Larrakia People and INPEX have worked together to establish a strong and respectful relationship, including the establishment of the Larrakia Ichthys LNG Foundation Trust (LIFT) in 2018, supporting long-term opportunities for the Larrakia community.
Project 2025 to 2050 provides an opportunity to build on these foundations and look ahead together, recognising that the needs and priorities of the Larrakia People will continue to develop over time.
As part of Project 2025 to 2050, Aslan Professional Services (Aslan) has been supporting the process and working alongside those involved as everyone considers the way forward.
This has included engagement across the nine Larrakia family groups, providing an opportunity for each family group to participate in the process and contribute to the discussions.
The focus is on supporting clear and open communication around developments on Larrakia Country, while also creating space for broader conversations around capacity building, opportunity and self-determination.
At the heart of the process is a shared desire to keep the priorities, interests and long-term aspirations of the Larrakia People front of mind, while looking ahead to the opportunities that can be created for future generations.
